Purchasing Manager

Job Description Description Responsible, within limits of delegated authority, for the control and operations of the Central Purchasing Department. Assist in developing policies, procedures, objectives, goals, and training plan in accordance with corporate objectives. Mentor Buyers and Material Planners to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, and lessons-learned. Recommend and drive improvements in the overall purchasing process which will advance the interests of the corporation. This is a working management role and may require commodity purchasing. Reports to: Director of Supply Chain Management Essential Duties Manages and mentor the Corporate Buyer(s) and Material Planner(s). Oversees the department commodity assignments to ensure balance and alignment of skill set. Assists in developing purchasing plans and programs to implement corporate policies and objectives. Drives purchasing objectives and ensures understanding of approved objectives by subordinates. Visibility of all new product developments relative to materials and supplier base. Maintains Purchasing records, such as work instructions and procedures, as required by the Purchasing Department and other departments. Provides support to Purchasing staff in all conflicts or questions regarding prices, deliveries, quality, and specifications. Furnishes spend analysis and cost data for use in scheduling, planning, budgeting, and other functional activities. Manages and maintains the Supplier Annual Review Process which includes on-time delivery, cost reductions, and supplier quality. Develops and manages an ongoing training process for all Purchasing personnel. Supports a work environment conducive to high efficiency and high employee morale. Promotes and encourages Purchasing personnel to evaluate new materials and new suppliers as required. Maintains awareness of new supply chain technology and processes. Provides leadership regarding supplier visits and audits. Assists with supplier negotiations. Ensures the Purchasing Department has the correct supply chain in place to manage and support the business requirements either through new suppliers or supplier reduction. Interacts cross-functionally with other departments to improve processes and efficiencies. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field. APICS or CPM certification desired. 7 to 10 years of buying experience and 5+ years of materials management experience. Knowledge of MRP applications is a must. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc). Effective verbal, written, flexibility, decision-making, multitasking, and interpersonal skills. Ability to travel as necessary.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
